Whatever Next!

As part of our topic, we have been reading Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy.

The children enjoyed drama activities, such as Hot Seating and Role Play.

While Hot Seating, the children used mobile phones to ask Baby Bear some questions about his journey to the moon. Of course, Baby Bear kept his helmet on during the session.

The children loved being in the Role Play and Book Corner acting out Baby Bear's adventures to the moon.

The tiger who came to tea

We have started our new topic - Modern Tales and Rhymes.

This term we will be looking at popular children's authors.

We began by reading 'The tiger who came to tea' by Judith Kerr.

The children have enjoyed retelling the story in our role play area.

They created shopping lists of food to buy in case the tiger visited.

The children have been learning about tigers.
They created their own tiger artwork.

The children used story props to retell the story.

A Special Message from Michael Rosen

Today, Reception Rosen learnt all about their class name and who they were named after. We learnt that Michael Rosen wrote our favourite story, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'.

Meanwhile, Michael Rosen heard that we were named after him and sent us a special message along with a signed photo of his latest book. We can't wait to learn more about him!

The tiger came to tea!

This week we have been reading "The tiger who came to tea".

Today we had a very special visitor...The tiger!

We had a tea party with the tiger and luckily the tiger left some food for us!

At the end of the tea party we asked the tiger some questions, such as

"Where did you go afterwards?"

"Where do you live?"

"Do you have a family?"

The children were very engaged and were thinking about what the tiger did beyond the story. This helps their imagination and language comprehension.

We love stories!

We have a great topic this term, as we are learning about some of our favourite stories.

We read 'The tiger who came to tea'.

We enjoyed taking part in the story in our role play area.

The children decided to write a shopping list to replace all the food and drink eaten by the tiger.

We talked about what the tiger ate and whether it was 'healthy' or 'unhealthy'.
The children created healthy meals for the tiger.

The children drew pictures of the tiger so that Sophie would remember him.

We also read the story 'Handa's Surprise'.

The children enjoyed creating paintings and drawings of the different fruit in Handa's basket.

During the story, the children had a chance to hold the different fruit.
They smelt it, felt it and even had the chance to taste it. All the fruit was delicious.

We are now looking forward to 'Whatever next!'
