Whatever Next!

As part of our topic, we have been reading Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy.

The children enjoyed drama activities, such as Hot Seating and Role Play.

While Hot Seating, the children used mobile phones to ask Baby Bear some questions about his journey to the moon. Of course, Baby Bear kept his helmet on during the session.

The children loved being in the Role Play and Book Corner acting out Baby Bear's adventures to the moon.

What did the tiger say?

The children have loved reading 'The tiger who came to tea'.
They also learnt about speech bubbles.
Following the lessons, the children wrote about what the tiger said as he knocked on Sophie's door.

Would you let the tiger in?

The tiger who came to tea

We have started our new topic - Modern Tales and Rhymes.

This term we will be looking at popular children's authors.

We began by reading 'The tiger who came to tea' by Judith Kerr.

The children have enjoyed retelling the story in our role play area.

They created shopping lists of food to buy in case the tiger visited.

The children have been learning about tigers.
They created their own tiger artwork.

The children used story props to retell the story.

It must be Christmas

The children were very excited to change the role play area into Santa's Workshop.
There were busy elves wrapping and boxing presents for Santa.

They used clay to create candle holders.
When the clay had dried, the children used their creative skills to decorate the pots and insert a candle.

The Christmas tree was put up in the classroom.
The children chose decorations and used their fine motor skills to hang them on the tree.

The story telling table enabled the children to tell festive stories with their friends.

The children used their phonic knowledge to write simple words related to the Christmas season.

Tracing festive pictures supported the children with their fine motor and creative skills.

The children independently wrote letters to Santa.

During Maths, the children were learning to continue and create patterns.
What comes next in this pattern?

The children used Busy Things to read simple words to help Santa deliver his presents.

While KS1 and KS2 were at the local church, Reception children sneaked into the Y6 classrooms.
They sat at the Y6 desks and created Christmas cards.
They left the Christmas cards on each desk to surprise the Y6 children when they returned.

Merry Christmas!
