!THE DIGESTION EXPERIEMENT!
This term in Year, we will be learning all about the Human body and the digestive system. We have learnt about the different organs and where they are situated. Today we learnt about what happens to a banana sandwich when we eat oine.
First we had to make a sandwich
Then we had to cut it up using a knife and fork to show what our teeth do when we put it into our mouths.
Then the chopped up sandwich mixes with Saliva and begins t break down.
Next, the food passes down the oesophagus with the motion of peristalsis to move it forward to the stomach.
At this point, the food mixes with acid from the stomach and breaks down even further into a mushy mess...
Now, it is ready to travel into the small intestine whereby the good nutrients are taken and the resulting waste enters the large intestine.
Here the large intestine, strips away any good enzymes and takes it into the blood stream.
Finally the waste travels through the large intestine and comes out through the rectum and we have a version of 'excrement' or 'in laymans terms 'Poo'!
We had a lot of fun doing this experiment but it also made us feel sick because of the strong smell of vinegar and lemon juice (the acids). However, the end product was so life like that we now fully understand the digestive process. PARENTS! Please do not make us banana sandwiches anytime soon.!
