Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about Eid and Ramadan and how they are celebrated.
We had a visit from Mrs Rasul who told us lots of fascinating information about how she celebrates Eid and all about fasting and Ramadan.
People pray before they eat. The last 10 days are considered
the most holy days of Ramadan – people often wake up very early in the morning
and say a special prayer to mark the start of the end of Ramadan.
Not everyone has to fast, people who are unwell, children or
people who are having a baby don’t have to fast.
One of the reasons people fast is to think of those who are
less fortunate than them who don’t have access to food and water.
Ramadan ends when the crescent moon is spotted. Ramadan
lasts for 29 or 30 days depending on the moon.
People who fast during Ramadan are not allowed to eat or
drink anything during daylight hours. Fasts during the summer are very long and
in the winter they are shorter.
