A big well done to both year 4 classes on the completion of their months long project to design and create a talking picture - that is, a picture which can make sounds or play recording when you press buttons on the image.
As part of their learning in physical computing, the students had to:
- learn about 'events' and how run different sequences of code for different events,
- learn to record sounds in Scratch,
- design a talking picture on paper,
- draw, print and glue their designs together and add split pins,
- write the code to control the back-end,
- connect the system using their image, a MakeyMakey, a laptop and lots of crocodile clips,
- test the talking picture to make sure it works,
- evaluate the process and suggest improvements (if they got to do it all over again).
No small task then! But they did incredibly well and by the last session they were absolute professionals and knew exactly what they were doing.
Here are just a few examples of the students work so you can see for yourselves.
