It must be Christmas

The children were very excited to change the role play area into Santa's Workshop.
There were busy elves wrapping and boxing presents for Santa.

They used clay to create candle holders.
When the clay had dried, the children used their creative skills to decorate the pots and insert a candle.

The Christmas tree was put up in the classroom.
The children chose decorations and used their fine motor skills to hang them on the tree.

The story telling table enabled the children to tell festive stories with their friends.

The children used their phonic knowledge to write simple words related to the Christmas season.

Tracing festive pictures supported the children with their fine motor and creative skills.

The children independently wrote letters to Santa.

During Maths, the children were learning to continue and create patterns.
What comes next in this pattern?

The children used Busy Things to read simple words to help Santa deliver his presents.

While KS1 and KS2 were at the local church, Reception children sneaked into the Y6 classrooms.
They sat at the Y6 desks and created Christmas cards.
They left the Christmas cards on each desk to surprise the Y6 children when they returned.

Merry Christmas!

Year 3 Grinch Instructions

Today we had lots of fun creating effective instructions about how to steal Christmas like the Grinch !

4 Ennis Art

This week in art the children made Egyptian clay masks. We learned all about different masks in the lesson and looked at different Egyptian masks. Then the children used clay and tools to create their own versions. Here are a few examples.

Abstract sculpture in Year 2

This week Year 2 have explored the artwork of British abstract sculptor Barbara Hepworth. We found that her large scale sculptures often show abstract human forms and are situated outside.

What we really like about abstract work is that we can all have a different opinion on what we see, yet are all absolutely correct!

We used cardboard boxes in teams to make our own abstract human forms, before sitting down individually to draw them accurately using tone.

This also tied in with our maths learning this week- 3D shapes!

Year 5 - Judo

Year 5 have really enjoyed their Judo lessons across this past half term. During one of their lessons they even had a visit from Santa!

The children have learned some defence techniques and have put these into practice!

What material is best for curtains?

Today in Science we looked at different materials to see which is best for curtains. We used torches to see which were opaque and transparent. We decided that a opaque and soft material was the best.
