Our local area

As part of our topic, Ourselves and Homes, we went for a local walk to look at different types of homes.

Before we left, the children looked at a map of the area to see the route we were going to take.
They identified our school and the fields.

As it is Road Safety Week, the children learnt about how to keep safe on the roads.
They wore their reflective jackets to be seen.

The children's task was to find different types of homes.
The first home we found was a detached house.
The children talked about the different parts of a house.

We even found a fire station!

The children found some flats. They talked about how there are families living on each floor.

On our return to school, the children found a bungalow.
They told us that bungalows do not have stairs.

Back in class, the children recorded what they had seen during our local walk.

The children spent the afternoon creating their own maps of our walking route.

They used Busy Things to talk about directions.

It was a fun day!
