On the last day of the Spring One term Year 2 set fire to their Tudor houses to conclude our learning about the great Fire of London in English and History.
Children built their houses at home with their families (well done families, an incredible team effort!) to replicate the Tudor style with wooden beams and overhangs, and in school we lined them up ready to recreate the Great Fire of London itself.
Our children said they felt a whole mixed bag of emotions, from excitement, fear and empathy for the families who lost their homes and possessions in the real fire of 1666.
The weather conditions on the day were similar to September 1666- it was a dry day with a little breeze, which helped the fire to spread, so we were able to observe from a safe distance! The children even burst in to a spontaneous round of London's Burning.
Thank you to the families who all built incredible houses, and to our wonderful caretaker Mr Blackburn who kept us safe and started the fire for us.
Mrs Grech and Mrs Sangha
