KS1 STEM CLUB
The children have been attending STEM club for just over half a term now and have been working very hard on a number of activities aimed at; enhancing their knowledge, increasing wonder and intrigue and giving them hands on investigations linked to the real world.
The activities in this round of STEM Club are part of a programme by The British Science Association and make up the CREST Award. Upon completion of 8 different activities, the children will earn their very own Star level CREST Award and certificate.
This week, we completed activity number four, Sneaky Shadows.
Children investigated shadows and looked at what they are, how they are made and how they can be changed.
First, children looked at using artificial light sources. They used torches to make shadows on paper and even attempted to make shadow art inspired by animals. Children used picture cards to inspire the animals they made with their hands.
Children compared shadows made by artificial light with shadows made by natural light
Children also looked at making shadows with shadow puppets.
Children were even introduced to silhouette portraits.
The children had a lot of fun when investigating shadows and discussed how shadows are made and how changing light sources can adapt the shadow size and length.
We look forward to sharing some more of our STEM Club activities with you and news of our Awards.
