Kung Hei Fat Choy

We  have been celebrating Chinese New Year.

The children have been greeting each other with the Chinese New Year greeting 'Kung Hei Fat Choy'.

We listened to the story of the Chinese Zodiac and found out
how the Chinese years were named after different animals.
The children used story props to retell the story with their friends.
They used their knowledge of ordinal numbers to place the animals in order.

The children used their cutting skills to make Chinese lanterns to decorate the classrooms.
They used the Chinese lucky colour, red.

As this is the Year of the Rabbit, the children created rabbits
by painting and then adding different materials.

The children developed their fine motor skills by using chopsticks to put 'noodles and vegetables' into their bowls.

We had 'lucky red' dough to create delicious dumplings, by rolling, moulding and pinching the dough.

The children were very engaged when we had an 'animal hunt'.
Pictures of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals were hidden around the classroom.
The children had to find them and write down as many as they could.
They kept counting their lists to see how many they had written down,
and how many more they needed to find.

Our favourite part of Chinese New Year was tasting Chinese food.

A great end to the celebration.
