Fairlop Heritage and Our MP Wes Streeting visited Yr 6 today

We had David and Derek from Fairlop Heritage visit Year 6 today to talk about what our local area was like during WW2.  They grew up in Hainault and Derek even attended John Bramston school.

RAF Fairlop played a prominent role in WW2.  Where the lake is now, there were runways.  Many pilots from different commonwealth countries were stationed here.  Some sadly did not survive the war.

This was one of the early computers in 1940.  This computer was used in code breaking.

We tried planning a week's worth of meals using only the food that was rationed.  It did prove quite difficult!

Derek modelled a gas mask for us!

This map showed all the bombing sites around Hainault.  All the red dots are where bombs fell.  This was a targeted area because of the RAF base.

This plane crashed into the allotment area of Hainault

This is a picture of all the residents of Hanover Gardens on VE Day.

Wes Streeting talked about the importance of knowing the history of the area.

It was also Wes Streeting's Birthday so we wished him a Happy Birthday and made a card for him.
